Lili Reynaud-Dewar

Perfect Lives. Lili Reynaud-Dewar and Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt

A major French artistic voice offers an institutional critique meets memoir, exploring individual agency within institutions and the politics of cultural production.

Lili Reynaud-Dewar is a French performance artist who employs a variety of media, including film, installation, writing, and sculpture. In her interventions, which insert themselves into the architecture of a specific space and interact with the audience, Reynaud-Dewar creates settings and situations that transcend the division between work and viewer.

On the occasion of SCHIRN Kunsthalle Frankfurt’s 40th anniversary and Lili Reynaud-Dewar’s 50th birthday, the artist superimposes the lives of institution and self: the
chronology interweaves triumphs and failures, the physical and the political in her own career as an artist and the history of the institution, bringing out visible as well as invisible aspects and spotlighting individuals and events that had a formative influence.
